Iron Station gets its name from its past as an iron-mining community with a railroad station. Today it's mostly a place to get more land and more house between Lincolnton and Denver. The Census-designated place itself is small, just 825 people in 2020, but the Iron Station mailing address covers a much bigger area.
For commuters, the draw is position. Local agents put it at roughly 15 minutes to the Lake Norman boat launches and restaurants in Denver, about 30 minutes to Charlotte Douglas Airport, and about 40 minutes to uptown Charlotte. Those are estimates and depend on where in the ZIP you live and the time of day.
Lincolnton-Lincoln County Regional Airport, a general-aviation airport with a 5,500-foot runway, has an Iron Station address and sits east of Lincolnton.

Pinnacle Ridge
A fully gated luxury community with homes built from 2009 into 2026. Homes run roughly 3,600 to 5,300+ sq ft on lots of about 1.1 to 1.65 acres. Custom builders here have included Evolution Premier Builders, BWA Builders and Kingdom Land & Homes.
Victoria Creek
Homes built from about 2007 to 2023, averaging over 4,000 sq ft, with an HOA of about $25 a month. It's one of the higher-end established neighborhoods in the 28080 ZIP.
Autumn Woods
An established neighborhood on Windy Ridge Drive, off Highway 73, closer to the Lake Norman side of the county.
Planters Ridge
Development began in 1994, and the original homes are typically around 1,250 sq ft with three bedrooms. New homes are being built on remaining lots along Planters Row Road. In September 2026 they were listed around $438K to $445K for about 1,750 to 2,050 sq ft.
Lake Forest
A neighborhood of more modest, entry-level homes. A good place to look if you want an Iron Station address at a lower price point.

Iron Station is served by Lincoln County Schools. Iron Station Elementary is at 4207 Highway 27 East, and many Iron Station addresses feed to East Lincoln Middle and East Lincoln High in Denver. Some parts of the ZIP go to Catawba Springs Elementary instead, so check the exact address with the district.
The area has several places on the National Register of Historic Places, including Ingleside (listed in 1972), Magnolia Grove, the Tucker's Grove Camp Meeting Ground, and Machpelah Presbyterian Church (listed in 2025).
